Lockout Blahs

I assume you are like me and are absolutely tired of hearing about the NFL lockout (before) and hearing about the "lack of time" teams have to sign players (now). Yeah, it's nice to hear about which players have been released and added to each team, but I am getting sick of hearing about a few things. Actually, I am getting sick of hearing about a few people, two in particular that have been signed to the same team.

That team is the Patriots. It is possible I just hate Hoodie and all that he does. If you are not familiar with Hoodie, he is the Pats head coach, Bill Belichick (who is a convicted cheater, and without the best offensive line in the biz, would be a nobody). But let me return to those two people I am sick of hearing about:

Chad Ochocinco. He is past his prime and is close to washed up in my book. The Second is Albert Haynesworth who also signed with the Pats recently. This "slob" (I'll explain later) is the greatest example of greed and what is wrong with professional sports today.

A little background on Haynesworth: He is a defensive lineman and had a career season a few years back with the Tennessee Titans. He then signed a ridiculous deal with the Washington Redskins worth $100 million. He started complaining about the 'Skins defensive scheme, then decided "he got his" with that contract and decided not to care anymore. He started to (noticeably) give up on plays and became a bum.  Literally, a bum. He showed up to camp last summer fatter than a sumo-wrestler at an Old Country Buffet and could not even pass the conditioning tests. He spent most of last season on the sidelines as the most paid backup in the history of the NFL. Good luck Hoodie. Nice pick up on that one.

Today, I was listening to Jim Rome when the "slob" quote came up on his show. Apparently, a professional hockey player for the Edmonton Oilers by the name of Ryan Whitney, who is from the Boston area, tweeted this beauty today:

"I can't believe the Patriots traded for possibly the laziest, biggest idiot in pro sports. Albert Hayneswortth is a slob."

What a beaut. This is one pro athlete talking about another. Can you get any better than that? Thanks, Ryan. You have to love a tweet that rips someone apart.

I'd also like to congratulate US Soccer today for finally getting rid of Bob Bradley as our soccer coach and hiring Jürgen Klinsmann (like the umlaut?). Bradley did a fine job as head coach, but it was obvious he didn't have what it takes for our program to reach that next level, and Klinsmann definitely does.  He was previously Germany and Bayern Munich's coach, and that explains itself.

7 Hours

I'm not sure if you have heard yet or not, but the Pirates and Braves played a 19 inning, 7 hour game last night. First off, damn! How can you not score a run before 19th inning?!? Anyways, this game ended with an absolutely BLOWN call by the home plate umpire. And when I say BLOWN, I mean this call could have been made correctly by the 14-year-old umpire at your local Little League game.

Terrible. I'm surprised Clint Hurdle didn't make that umpire actually blind. I would have thrown dirt in his eyes. Then again, it was 2 am after the game started at 7 pm, so Hurdle was probably exhausted. Everyone was tired, yes, and everyone wanted to just go home, yes, but come on man!  If there hasn't been a greater argument for an expanded instant replay, there may never be.

I also want to point out how good of a manager Hurdle is. A few years ago, he turned the Rockies organization around (they still are reaping the benefits from his efforts), but the Rockies then, mysteriously to me, fired him only 2 years after he led the Rockies to the world series. He is now the Pirates manager and has completely turned that franchise around. Who would of known that, at the end of July, they would be on top of the NL Central along with the Brewers, Cardinals, and Reds.

I am a hardcore Brewer fan, but you have to give credit where credit is due. Nice Job Clint, but hopefully the Crew can win the division this year. But....we will save that discussion for another day.

Welcome

Hi and welcome to my sports blog!

I appreciate you taking the time to check this out, because I tend to live and breathe sports. I love the Badgers, Brewers, and Packers (you may see a bias when it comes to these teams), but I am also just a lover of all things sports. I am going to try to weigh in on the hot and not-so-hot topics circulating right now. I feel you will get a pretty good view point, because I tend to listen to too many sports talk radio shows while at work, and I always throw on ESPN (the mothership) when I get home.

What shows do I listen to/suggest? While at work in the morning/daytime, I have The Big 1070 (AM radio) on, starting with Lucas and Lepay from 6-8 am. Why do I listen to that? Anytime Matt Lepay's voice is on the radio, you just have to listen. I then flip back and forth between The Dan Patrick Show and Bob and Tom on 101.5 (I know B & T isn't sports, but come on it is one of the best/funniest shows) from 8-11 am for DP and 7-10am for B & T. Finally, from 11 am-2 pm, I never miss The Jim Rome Show. Now I know some of you may HATE Jim Rome, but honestly, Jim Rome is Burning doesn't do him justice. He parallels most of my opinions and his radio show is definitely entertaining. Check it out if you can. I know you will love it. But honestly, 1070 AM is great in the afternoon as well. They focus on the Badgers from 2 pm until... I don't know, I am usually done by 2! HA!

Thanks again for checking this out I will try to post on a semi-daily basis and as news/events happen.
